What is the YDE?
It is the official form in which a licensed electrical installer confirms that the electrical installation of a property has been inspected and complies with the Greek standard (ELOT HD 384). It comes with the single-line diagram of the fuse box, a floor plan of the installation and an inspection sheet with the measurements.
When do you need one?
- New connection: to connect a new house, apartment or shop to the grid for the first time.
- Power increase or change of supply, for example from single-phase to three-phase.
- Reconnection after the power has been disconnected for a long period.
- After a renovation or a major extension of the installation.
- Periodic re-inspection: for homes, a new inspection is required every 14 years.
What we check
- The earthing, with an earth resistance measurement.
- The insulation of the cables.
- The residual current device (RCD): that it trips quickly and at the right current.
- That cable sizes match the breakers protecting them.
- The condition of the fuse box, sockets and connections.
What if the installation has problems?
If we find something missing, such as no RCD or poor earthing, we tell you exactly what needs to be done and give you a quote. We only sign the YDE when the installation is safe, because that is what protects you and your family.
How long does it take?
For a typical apartment the inspection is usually done within one day, as long as no corrections are needed. For a new build, we prepare the YDE together with the installation.
